http://www.arianastefan.com - Difference Between Vegan and Vegetarian
I've been vegan for over 20 years now, and many people have asked me what is the difference between vegan and vegetarian?
Some people think there's not a big difference, but it's actually a quantum leap of attitude and lifestyle.
Veganism is not really a diet. It's a philosophy and compassionate lifestyle whose adherents seek, as much as possible to exclude the use of animals for food, clothing, or any other purpose.
Vegans do not consume any food derived from animals. This includes meat, fish, eggs, milk, cream, yoghurt, and honey – among other things.
Vegans also don't use any animal derived products, such as fur, leather or wool as the production of these products is considered to be extremely cruel.
Vegans also avoid products which have been tested on animals.
To non-vegans, veganism seems extreme, but the attitude of vegans is that it is more extreme to torture and kill animals for the use of humans, when it is not necessary, because humans can get all the nutrients they require from a diet which is does not cause distress and death to sentient beings.
A vegan diet is almost always a very healthy diet, but as with all things there are exceptions. Vegans can still consume high amounts of fat and sugar. There is vegan junk food too.
But, on the whole the difference between vegan and vegetarian ensures that most vegans are extremely healthy.
